Knitting
Ancient, possibly cheap hobby. I was inspired by looking at some knitting machines,
and marvelling at its elegance. I recently learned how to solve rubik's cubes,
and I'd like something just as fidgety, but that creates art at the same time.
What I hope to get out of it
- It's something to do with my hands.
- A Practical Skill, I can make useful things with it.
- I can make gifts with it.
- It may help reinforce my knowledge of knots, as well as other textile arts
How I will document it
- Photos of finished projects
- Keep library of patterns here
Patterns
Feather and Fan
id:: 63c25894-d01d-4ed6-b8e3-79f3051f29eb - Cast on multiples of 18 - 4 row repeated pattern - R1: *K1; - R2: *P1; - R3: *(KT2)x3,(YO,K1)x6,(KT2)x3; - R4: *K1; - The fourth row of the pattern creates a "purl bump" that contours the waves - It was recommended to use a tally sheet to keep track of where in the pattern you are
Rib
- Cast on multiples of 2 - 1 row repeated pattern (sort of) - R1: *K1,P1; - Double rib is what you'd expect - R1: *K2,P2; - Do the matching stitch after reversing to make consistent columns
Double-sided stockinette
id:: 63d1fd93-6476-4f52-bcec-5ec9c9b98b91 - Cast on multiples of two - R1: *K1, SP1; - SP - slip purl-wise, with yarn in front - Flip and do the same procedure, so you'll knit on previously-slipped loops, and slip on previously-knitted loops, where you'll see a purl-bump - cast off in-pattern, but knit the last loop instead of slipping it before doing the last loop-over-loop. - Reversible - Nice edges - Makes a hollow fabric, and is very stretchy.
Interlocked double stockinette
id:: 63d2023e-b616-430f-9d40-10d0f2a05dd5 - Flat - Cast on 4*n - Italian cast-on with double-twist to start - Knit through back-loop on first 2 rows for this cast on - In the Round - Cast on 4*n+2 - Italian Cast-On - Knit through back-loop on first 2 rows for this cast on - R1: *SPB1,SPF1,K1,P1; - SPB - slip purl-wise, yarn in back - SPF - slip purl-wise, yarn in front - Stitch on previously-slipped loops, slip on previously stitched loops - Reversible - It is stretchy like a 1x1 rib, maybe stretchier - Creates its own nice edge that matches the rest of the pattern - Need to figure out a bind-off, possibly the tubular rib kitchener bind off - There's probably a cool two-color version waiting to be discovered
